Montevideo does not have a Terminal for Cruises. Crusiers once the get off the ship can walk into the city by their own.To walk outside takes les then 10 minutes. Once the tourist cross the Yacare Exit door you are in the city.About a block passengers could visit the Famous Port Market where it can be find 15 Steak House restaurants and Souvenir Shops.
On the Port Market sidewalks you can find a Money Exchange and at the corner a Coffee Bar with WIFI.

Punta del Este Cruises docks next to Gorriti Island and Crusiers come ashore by tender.
Downtown Punta is 8 blocks from the Port. Next to the port are many Seafood restaurants.



To visit Uruguay

Citizens of USA, Canada, UK, Australia require only passports for entry. You can stay 3 months, in the country, and renewable for 90 days more.

Argentina Brazil Chile

Requires Reciprocity Fees to American,Canadian,Australian
citizens.Payment must be done in advance prior to travel and proof of payments presented upon your arrival.
UK nationals do not have to pay.
However ask your travel Agent.

American,Canadian,Australian citizens, visiting Brazil, requires a Tourist Visa,which may be obtained from your nearest Brazilian Consulate prior to travel.

Chile no visa is required for visitors from the US,UK, Canada and Australia. Reprocity Visa costs. 160 USD Americans, 132 USD Canadians, 95 USD Australians Citizens.
UK nationals do not have to pay reciprocity fee.


Payments and Currency

Money Exchange

Some local currency could be exchanged at Airports, or Shopping Malls, and Downtown areas. Passports most be shown in Argentina or Brazil.
Uruguay Money Exchange is easy and legal everywhere in any city. Argentina and Brazil have two exchange rates the government rate and the black market (blue).Rates fluctuate daily.
Cash
Dollars are accepted in all countries.Restaurants and shops accepts dollars.Some local cash is recommended to buy unexpensive snacks, beverages, taxis, bus tickets.
ATM
To withdraw it is posible, in Uruguay you can withdraw dollars ( only 100 USD bills ) directly from an ATM.
Procedure must be quick, don´t try more than 3 times
otherwise for security reasons the ATM will hold your Card inside.Check in advance if the ATM accepts your Credit or Debit Card.

Credit Cards
Not all restaurants accepts Credit Cards.Important and big ones usually do, but always ask first. Carry some 100 USD as a
back-up, in smaller denominations.

Language and Religion

Uruguay Argentina Chile the language spoken are Spanish. English in tourist areas.
Brazil Portuguese is spoken.

Religion: Catholics 92 % , Jewish 1% Protestants 8%. Uruguay is the only country with no state oficial religion. Cathedral or churches open after 10 am to 6:00 pm. Tourists can enter and take photos inside.

Food

Typical Food In Uruguay and Argentina, as our bloodlines are from Spain, Italy, are the same of these countries. However grilled meat ( cow, chicken, pork or lamb ) are the typical everyday dish in both countries. Uruguay offers the "Chivito Sandwich ", as a typical dish.

Uruguay and Argentina beef cuts:

Lomo (Uru.)-Sirloin or tenderloin thick and juicy
Cuadril- Rump steak a thin cut.
Tira de Asado or Asado- Shortribs thin strips of ribs and meat sliced crossways.Few meat and more ribs.
Vacio-Flank steak, chewy but tasty
Costilla- T-Bone a cut close to the bone.

Taxis and Buses
In Buenos Aires ask your Hotel for a Radio Taxi.
In Montevideo (Uruguay), taxis have a fiberglass shield, for a comfortable trip, try to find a bigger one .
Buses
In Buenos Aires (Argentina) you pay the driver. In Montevideo (Uruguay) just enter into the bus , you pay the bus ticket to guard bus.

WHAT TO WEAR

Wear like locals do:
Locals will frequently be dressed in nice trousers/skirts and a
starched button-up shirt no matter how hot is the day would be.

Avoid to wear sneakers , tracksuits, exercise shorts, money belts,backpacks (in walking tours) in vans tours you can.
During walking tours avoid big camaras.Car or van tours with local guides you can bring expensive camaras.
Avoid carrying large amounts of cash or wearing jewellery.
Take care of your cell, if you receive a call or wish to call, go to the entrance of a shop, if you are Downtown.

South America City neighborhoods

South American southern countries are societies with large middle class populations. Their neighborhoods are far from Downtown or Port areas. Buenos Aires upscale neighborhoods are in the North side of the city ( Recoleta , Palermo ,Belgrano). Montevideo are the seaside and Eastern neighborhoods ( Punta Carretas, Pocitos, Malvin, and Carrasco). In Chile you could visit Viña del Mar a city next to Valparaiso, at only 8 km , 15 minutes ride.

Rio de Janeiro ,Brazil is a beautiful city you must visit Ipanema, Leblon, Sao Conrado, Copacabana.
